Fresh Baked Dinner Rolls
Soft and warm from the oven, fresh baked dinner rolls top off the perfect meal.
Preparation time: 2 hours 30 minutes (most rise/rest time)
Bake time: 20 minutes
2 packages yeast 1/2 cup warm water 1 cup milk, scalded 4 Tbls sugar
4 Tbls. butter 1 tsp. salt 4 cups flour 1 egg
Add the yeast to the warm water.
Scald the milk.
Add sugar, butter and salt to scalded milk and let cool to room temperature (30 minutes approx.).
Pour milk mixture into large bowl (preferably not plastic). Add 1 cup of the flour, beat well with wire whisk or wooden spoon. While whipping add egg and yeast. Gradually add remaining flour to form a soft, slightly sticky dough.
Cover with a tea cloth and allow to rise until double in size. About 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Set oven temp to 375 degrees. Spray a large baking dish, or two smaller baking dishes, with Pam.
Lightly flour a breadboard and place dough on it. Cover with tea cloth and allow to rest 10 minutes.
Flour a rolling pin lightly ad roll out the dough to 3/4″ think. Use a drinking glass dipped into flour, to cut out rounds. Place on the baking dish(es).
Melt the butter and brush the tops of the rolls. Cover with the tea cloth again and let rest/rise until doubled (1 hour approx.).
Bake in oven for 20 minutes until golden.
