Nutty Apple Crisp
This is my twist on the old apple crisp. I’m not a big raisin fan. When a recipe calls for raisins I find something else to swap it out for. Here I swap out raisins for pecan’s! With a touch of maple syrup it creates a taste of wonderful!
Preparation time: 30 minutes (mainly coring and slicing the apples)
Bake time: 30 minutes @ 375 degrees
6 cups peeled and chopped granny smith apples 1/2 cup flour 1/4 cup one minute oat
3/4 cup packed brown sugar (divided) 1/2 tsp cinnamon (divided) 1/2 cup butter
1/4 – 1/2 pecans chopped 1 Tbls maple syrup
Peel and slice the granny smith apples. If you have an apple coring device, now is the time to pull it out and save yourself some time!
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
In a bowl combine flour, oats, 1/2 cup of the brown sugar and 1/4 tsp of the cinnamon. Set aside.
In a microwave safe bowl melt butter. When melted add the other 1/4 cup of brown sugar, the other 1/4 tsp of cinnamon and the maple syrup. Now add the chopped apples and pecans. Stir until the apples are coated.
Pour mixture into a 13″ x 9′ casserole dish sprayed with Pam, or butter the bottom and sides of it.
Sprinkle the mixture of oats and brown sugar over the top of the apple mixture.
Bake for 30 minutes. When the top turns a golden brown it is done.
Best served warm and ala mode!
