Sourdough starter is a mixture of ingredients that make up the base for several recipes that are sourdough. When a recipe starts with “Take your sourdough starter” it is referring to this base recipe.

2 cups flour 1 tsp salt
3 Tbls sugar 1/2 tsp. dry yeast
2 cups lukewarm water
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Mix together until it becomes a smooth paste.
Place in large jar, or crock, with holes in the lid and leave it in a warm place to allow it to ferment for 3 days. Stir occasionally.
After 3 days your sourdough starter is ready to be used in a recipe!
